RCEA Membership:
On behalf of the RCEA, I would like to thank Cathie Fraser for her years of commitment and service to the RCEA and its members. Through Cathie’s hard work and dedication, the RCEA was shaped into the strong and viable union we see today. We, at the RCEA, wish Cathie continued success in her new role as General Secretary at the National Joint Council.
For those who may not know me, my name is Marvin Zaluski and I am honoured to represent you as your Interim RCEA President. I have been an active member of our union for the last 27 years, and have a deep understanding of the challenges and issues faced by our membership. Over the past 14 years, I have served in various capacities within the RCEA, demonstrating strong leadership skills, dedication, and a commitment to fighting for the rights and well-being of our members.
I received a Bachelor of Science Honours in Computer Science from the University of Regina in 1996 and a Master of Computer Science from the University of Ottawa in 2003. After two summer student work terms, I joined the NRC full-time as a CS in 1996 and have participated in many projects over the years for different industry and government stakeholders in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics.
In 2009, I became the RCEA steward for the Institute for Information Technology (IIT) at Building M-50 in Ottawa and have been the 1st Vice-President at the RCEA since 2014. Some of the RCEA committees I sit on are:
• RCEA National Executive Committee, since 2009
• RCEA Management Committee, since 2014
• RCEA Finance Committee, since 2014
• Joint Consultation Committee (JCC) since 2014
• Co-Chair National Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NCOSH) since 2022
• CS Bargaining Committee and Team, since 2014
As your Interim President, I am fully committed to ensuring that our union remains strong, vibrant, and dedicated to the needs of our members. I encourage each and every one of you to lend your support to the RCEA’s National Executive Committee, the National Office Staff, and your local stewards as we work together in achieving our shared goals.
Your active participation within your union and engagement are vital. Your ideas, concerns, and feedback are greatly valued. Should you have questions related to your collective agreement, labour relations and/or ideas for improving the workplace environment, please contact me via email president@rcea.ca or by phone 613-796-9341.
Sincerely,
Marvin Zaluski
Interim President
